My Favourite Albums of All Time

My favourite songs change every few weeks, mostly because I listen to songs I like so much that I'm bored of them by the end of the week. But there are a few albums that I have loved ever since the first time I listened to them, and despite having them on repeat so many times, have never got fed up of them. Obviously everyone has different music tastes and you might not agree with my choices but I would definitely recommend giving them a listen.

Songs About Jane - Maroon 5 (2002)

My dad introduced me to this album when I was quite young so I've loved this album for at least 6 years now and still listen to it quite a lot. I feel like Maroon 5's music has gone down hill recently and although it's still pretty good for mainstream pop music, it's not at the same standard as before.

It Won't be Soon Before Long - Maroon 5 (2007)

Yes another maroon 5 album and more proof that their earlier music was 1000x better. You know when there's that tiny bit in a song that you love and listen to over and over again?, well I feel like that about pretty much this whole album.

Watch the Throne - Jay Z + Kanye West (2011)

No matter how much you hate them as people, there is no denying that these two are geniuses when it comes to hip hop music. Also can we just take a moment to appreciate how perfect this album cover is.

James Arthur - James Arthur (2013)

Ngl, I was a bit obsessed with James Arthur when he was on the Xfactor and may have done a celebratory tour around the house cheering when he won. I would say he's the only person I've ever thought deserved to win the Xfactor so was really excited for his album. It didn't disappoint.

X - Ed Sheeran (2014)

Who doesn't love a bit of Ed Sheeran? This album is quite recent so hasn't had the test of time like the others but I have managed to listen to this non stop since it came out in the summer and still be completely in love with it.

Channel Orange - Frank Ocean (2011)

I love the kind of relaxed feel to the album and it's really good for chilled out easy listening. All the songs are incredible and I love Frank Ocean's voice so much. He also features in Watch The Throne which is how I actually discovered and came to love him in the first place.

6 Lipsticks You Should Buy

I'm not really much of a lipstick wearer really, but when I do feel that I'm in need of something on my lips, these are a few that I always lean towards. Either that, or they are always proudly displayed on my dressing table for me to admire and chicken out of wearing.

From left to right:
No7 Moisture Drench - Chic
Mac - Velvet Teddy
Rimmel Moisture Renew - Nude Delight

These three nude colours look very similar, but there are subtle differences that make me like them each individually.
  • This one from No7 (which I stole from my mum when I was about 11, so the shades might have changed) is quite a dark pink toned nude and has that kind of grown up sophisticated look about it. As the name would suggest it feels really nice and moisturising on your lips.
  • 'Velvet Teddy' is more on the brown side, but the main difference between this and the other two is that it is matte formula.
  • 'Nude Delight' from Rimmel is a lot more of a lighter peachy colour and I would say that it is more sheer and glossy, almost like a cross between a lipstick and lip balm.

From Left to Right:
Rimmel Lasting Finish by Kate - 107
Topshop - Depth
Topshop - Whimsical

I'm not the boldest or most confident when it comes to makeup so I haven't got as many uses out of these three as I have the others, but I love them nonetheless.
  • You've probably heard about this Kate Moss lipstick already but if you're looking for a matte burgundy lipstick for autumn, this is a good one to go for.
  • I only bought Topshop's 'depth' lipstick very recently so haven't actually had the opportunity to wear it out. It is very very dark and a bit intimidating, but I really love the rich purple colour and do also really like how it looks on.
  • The last lipstick I want to mention is also from Topshop. 'Whimsical' is a very summery peach colour with 'pretty' being the best word to describe it.

Rant #2 - That Bass

For so long now there's been this whole issue about skinny being the 'ideal body shape'. I don't really know how true that is, but what I do know is that this definitely isn't the case anymore. In fact it's gone way too far the other way. It seems that all people care about now is having a big 'booty' (just typing that is making me cringe).

This has been coming through in a lot of the popular songs recently. For example: All about that Bass, Anaconda, Wiggle... Don't get me wrong, I don't think they're particularly bad songs musically, but lyrically they're verging on disgusting.
Can someone please explain to me how on earth generalising skinny girls as 'bitches' has become acceptable?  Let's just think about if this was the other way round for a minute. Do you think that a song about fat bitches and how great it is to be skinny would go straight to number 1? Of course not!  All of this is pretty much the definition of double standards. Just like some people are naturally on the bigger side, some people naturally don't have much of a bum, and there shouldn't be anything wrong with that.

I don't like how along with this, our society has romanticised being overweight or what people like to call 'curvy'. We're so focused on not being discriminative that we've forgotten that being too 'curvy' is actually unhealthy and potentially dangerous. One of the biggest risks is heart disease which kills around 82,000 people each year in the UK, so is this really something we want to be supporting? Of course I would never hold someone's bigger size and weight against them but that doesn't mean I'm going to go about encouraging it, just as I wouldn't encourage people to be dangerously thin. I'm no expert but shouldn't we all be aiming to be healthy?

I don't think I explained myself very well but hopefully you understand what I'm getting at.

Reasons Why I Won't Miss Summer

Summer means long holidays, which is obviously a good thing. But I personally find that summer isn't all it's cracked up to be. And here's why:

  • Constantly having the sun in my eyes
  • Being practically naked in public (goodbye self esteem)
  • Sweating
  • Direct Light showing off every spot on my face
  • Trying to sleep in what feels like 546280000 degrees
  • Makeup has completely disolved by the end of the day
  • Somehow finding sand everywhere no matter how long ago I went to the beach
  • Sunburn
  • Bugs EVERYWHERE

So why would I miss summer? Especially now that I have these things to look forward to in autumn and winter :

  • Christmas
  • The satisfaction of stepping on a crunchy leaf
  • Wearing head to toe black becomes more acceptable
  • More rain
  • Being all warm and cosy in bed
  • Halloween
  • Big warm meals and comfort food
  • Baggy Jumpers and Sweatshirts
  • Dark makeup looks
  • The excitement of waking up to snow
